Let's start with a simple production, with some audio cues.

First, go into Production Properties and select the Audio Patches section. There you will see a list with a preview output as well as one or more program audio patches. If there are no program audio patches listed, click the Add button to add a new patch. Similarly you can use the Remove button to remove the currently selected patch. You only need one audio patch for your audio cues to work.

The name of the preview output can't be changed, but you can edit a program Patch Name by clicking it a couple of times or pressing F2.  Press enter once you are happy with the name. These names show up in other places in MultiPlay.

In the Audio Device column, you can choose which stereo audio device each patch will use.  When you add audio cues, you can choose which audio patch that cue will use. So you're not directly choosing an audio device in the audio cue, instead you're choosing an audio patch which in turn selects the audio device.

Once you have your audio patches setup, click the Accept button and close Production Properties.  Now would be a good time to save the production.

To add an audio cue, click the black audio note icon in the toolbar. You will be prompted for an audio file.  Once chosen, a new audio cue will be inserted into the main cue list. You can double click on a cue to open up the Cue Properties window. There you can set options such as volume, pan (left - right) and many other parameters. By default your cue should ready to play without changing anything. If a cue has errors or warnings, they will show up as an icon in the left column of the cue list (hover over the icon to see the details) as well as the Messages menu in the toolbar.

Once you have one or more audio cues in the cue list, pressing the GO button will play the currently selected cue. Each cue has an Advance Action to control what happens next.
* No Action - The cue list will not advance
* Start Advance - The cue list will advance as soon as the cue starts
* Start Play - The next (or specified) cue will be started as soon as the cue starts
* End Advance - The cue list will advance at the end of the cue
* End Play - The next (or specified) cue will be started at the end of the cue
* Fade Advance - The cue list will advance when the cue reaches the fade-out position (if set)
* Fade Play - The next (or specified) cue will be started when the cue reaches the fade-out position (if set)

A simple production would use Start Advance for Advance Action and Next Cue for Advance Target.

Hopefully this will get you started. You can find the online for MultiPlay 3 here. (still in progress)

** MultiPlay version 2.x does not work correctly with mp3 files on newer computers and operating systems.  Please use 16-bit 44.1KHz wav files with no extra header information. MultiPlay 3 does not suffer from this issue.
