In Preferences > Shortcuts you'll find a list of actions that can triggered by the keyboard and/or incoming MIDI messages.

All actions can have a key assigned to them, with optional CTRL, ALT or SHIFT modifiers. To do the assignment, simply place the cursor in the corresponding cell (in the Key column) for that function and press the key(s). Press the delete key to remove the key combination from the action.

A few actions have the key combination fixed and those are shown with a pale red background.  Only one action can have a specific key combination assigned. If you try to assign one that is already in use or is reserved, a message box will prompt you with further directions.

Most actions can also have a MIDI trigger set to them. To assign the MIDI trigger, double click the corresponding cell in the MIDI column. A MIDI Trigger dialog will popup so you can set the message parameters. You can also click the capture button in that dialog and the next MIDI message received will set the parameters for you.

Some actions have MIDI trigger entry disabled for them and will have a pale red cell background. To enable MIDI control, you'll need to select a suitable MIDI input via Production Properties > MIDI > Control and set it active.
